Jon Ruben confessed to 17 offences at the courthouse on the end of the week

A person who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and gave them to youngsters at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two children aged between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the judicial center on recently.

Nevertheless, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old child.

The accused was remanded in custody prior to a subsequent court date on 28 November.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, handling the case, outlined the defendant's actions to the court.

She stated his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he operated.

Ruben played a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She told the court the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the next day.

She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in recently.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his family member had worries about the activities, for good reason.

"They decided to investigate in the individual's items."

The prosecutor said materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his concerns.

She said the man proceeded to play the "treat game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that time," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was examining the police response of the events.

The legal representative said the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the family member contacted the authorities once more.

She stated Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five children.
